Mini Pumpkin Wreath for Fall

A colorful Halloween-themed door wreath with black and white striped ribbon and orange pom-poms.

A bright pumpkin wreath is a perfect way to keep Halloween decor fun while still giving the front door a classic look. Every few years, I lean a little harder into Halloween decor than usual and make a new Halloween decor project. For the front door, I usually want something bold and classic, and this wreath strikes that balance. The striped ribbon gives the base a crisp black and white look, while the cluster of mini pumpkins adds color and personality. It feels festive, but it is basic enough to work throughout autumn.

A Classic Wreath With A Playful Twist

This is one of those projects that looks more detailed than the effort required. The steps are repetitive, the materials are simple, and the finished result has enough contrast to stand out in a polished way. It is also flexible, which makes it easy to customize from year to year, whether you want a fuller pumpkin cluster, a more minimal version, or a different ribbon. That balance of structure and personality is what gives this fall wreath its staying power and makes it such a good seasonal DIY if you want something cheerful without becoming cluttered.

What You’ll Need

Materials

  • Straw wreath form wrapped in plastic
  • Wide striped ribbon
  • Mini faux pumpkins

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Before You Start

Clear enough room on your workspace to wrap the straw base with ribbon before you begin. Leaving the plastic on the straw base helps it hold its shape and gives the ribbon a smoother surface to cover. It also makes the whole tutorial easier because the wreath is simpler to handle as you turn it.

Before gluing anything down, lay out the pumpkins and test a few arrangements. Taking a minute to check spacing helps prevent crowding and makes the finished layout feel more intentional. That small bit of planning is a great way to make the final design look cleaner.

How To Make It

Step 1: Wrap The Base

Begin by securing the end of the ribbon to the wreath with hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the base, overlapping it slightly as you go, and add a little glue every few inches to keep it smooth and secure. Continue until the surface is fully covered, then trim the ribbon neatly and glue the end in place at the back.

A neat ribbon wrap gives the wreath a polished foundation and helps the decorative details stand out later. It is the kind of small step that makes a craft project feel more finished.

Step 2: Attach The Pumpkins

Once the base is wrapped, arrange the pumpkins around the wreath and decide where you want the main cluster to sit before attaching anything. I liked the look of a fuller grouping with a few scattered accents around the edges because it gave the wreath movement without making it feel too even. That slightly asymmetrical placement helps the design feel more unique, but it still works best when the larger cluster stays concentrated in one area so the wreath has a clear focal point. Once the arrangement looks right, attach each piece with hot glue and press firmly until secure.

Step 3: Add The Hanging Loop

Create a sturdy loop at the top with an extra piece of striped ribbon. Attach it to the back of the wreath with hot glue so it hangs evenly on the front door. I skipped a bow here to keep the design a little simpler, since the ribbon and pumpkin cluster already add enough interest on their own. Leaving that extra detail off gives the wreath a cleaner look and helps it feel more classic.

Style It For Fall

This wreath is a nice option when you want to bring a little more color to the entry without making it feel overly seasonal. As a fall pumpkin wreath, it adds just enough personality while still keeping the look clean, and it stands out well against darker paint colors, natural wood, or neutral siding. It also works indoors, where it can be hung over a mirror or above a console table as an easy way to add a bit of fall without needing much else around it.

Tips And Variations

Swap the striped ribbon for a solid color or a softer pattern to reduce contrast while keeping the wreath’s shape intact. A patterned ribbon can also bring in more personal style, especially when the scale or motif ties back to other details on your door or porch. You can replace the pumpkins with something more Halloween-specific, like small spiders or mini skeletons, though pumpkins give you more flexibility to use it across the full fall season. Adjusting the ribbon width is another simple way to change the proportion without reworking the base.

A Polished Take on Halloween Decor

This wreath is a simple way to bring a little personality to your front door without making it feel overly seasonal. The striped ribbon and mini pumpkins add just enough contrast to feel festive, while the overall shape keeps the look clean and easy to use throughout fall. It comes together quickly, uses just a few materials, and is easy to customize to match your decor. It is an easy project that brings in just enough color and charm while still keeping the front door feeling polished for fall.
