Nautical Kids Bathroom Decor

My nautical kids bathroom decor is simple and bright. Navy accents, nautical art and lots of bright white make for a fresh and functional space.

Our kids bathroom is one of the top function over form spaces in our home. It gets used often and can easily get sloppy! Even so, in the spirit of not leaving any room unfinished, I wanted to decorate this space with some simple, nautical kids bathroom decor.

The Kids Bathroom Before

Before any decorating took place in this bathroom, it was just fine. A lot of the updates I made, like adding towel rings and wall hooks, contributed to the function of the space while also adding a decorative touch. I wanted to keep this space no frills and made sure there wasn’t much that little hands could damage in it.

This bathroom is small. We are fortunate to have two sinks and a door to divide the main bathroom area from the toilet, but even with these features, the room is small. Knowing this, I wanted to keep the color light and bright. I wanted all the accessory items to fade into the background as much as possible and have a few pops of accent color.

Choosing Simple Lighting and Decor

After white wall paint, lighting was the first thing I tackled in this space. I chose these glass globe lights because they give off great light and don’t draw your eye up towards them. The only decor in this room is the recycled glass soap pump (similar ones here) and the small basket (similar one here) for washcloths on the counter.

I added these simple Moen towel rings on each side of the sinks. I prefer that hand towels be hung up versus laying on the counter so that they can dry better. They’ve been yanked on a little too hard, but are easy to refasten to the wall.

Nautical Wall Art and Mirrors

I removed the builder grade sheet mirror from this bathroom with help and installed two wall mirrors in it’s place. The arched mirrors were originally gold, but I spray painted them navy. I don’t recall where I got the mirrors, but these are similar. What really brought the nautical feel into this space are two piece of knot wall art. There is one hanging above the hooks the kids hang their towels on a second one in the toilet room. I got them both from separate Goodwill trips. Etsy is also a good place to find similar wall art.

This house originally have the 1990s towel bars with huge ceramic pieces attached to the wall and a plastic rod in the middle. We tore those out immediately and I knew I wanted hooks in the kids bathroom along with our bathroom. I believe the towels dry faster when hanging that way. Instead of going with a hook rail, I chose these hooks from Home Depot.

Bright White Linens

I know how risky it is to choose all white linens with kids, but I did it anyway. Their hands are generally not super dirty upstairs and I can always easily replace towels as needed. I can’t remember where I got the waffle texture shower curtain, but we have the same one in our main floor bathroom. This one looks very similar. The white towels are from Frontgate. They are amazing and worth the investment!
