Fall Table Setting with Blue Accents

Elegant dining table decorated for fall with pumpkins and colorful ornaments.

This fall table setting combines pale blue accents with classic pumpkin orange for a fresh approach to seasonal decorating. It’s a simple way to bring fall color to the dining table while complementing the decor you already have in your home. Traditional fall palettes often center on reds, oranges, yellows and browns, but there is plenty of room to include colors that reflect your own style. Pairing one familiar fall shade with a palette of non-traditional fall colors creates a look that feels seasonal, sophisticated and comfortable enough for everyday use. This approach also makes it easy to incorporate everyday tableware and decor pieces you already own into the table design, keeping seasonal purchases and storage to a minimum.

An Orange and Blue Fall Tablescape

For my fall tablescape this season, I was inspired by the light greens and blues already in my home. I had used pale blue in my summer decor and liked the idea of carrying it into fall as an unexpected accent. Paired with classic pumpkin orange, it brings in a softer, cooler tone to the warm colors associated with autumn. The combination gives this simple fall table a sophisticated feel while remaining approachable for everyday meals and entertaining. Choosing a color palette is the starting point when planning your table for the fall season. Traditional autumn shades bring warmth, while colors from your everyday decor help the arrangement feel connected to the rest of your home. Fall table settings feel more personal when the seasonal details complement your decorating style rather than requiring a completely different look.

A Simple Approach to Your Fall Table Setting

A well styled table begins with the color palette you selected along with a general sense of how casual or formal you’d like the space to be for the season. Once those decisions are made, it’s easier to choose pieces that complement one another, especially when you are combining everyday tableware with seasonal decorations. I like to build the arrangement in stages, starting with the larger pieces that center the table and then working outwards toward the smaller details. This gives each addition to the table a clear role in the design.

  • Central items: Start with one or two anchor pieces in the center of the table. In my case, a white footed bowl filled with mini pumpkins serves as the centerpiece.
  • Candles: Add a pair tapers, tea lights, pedestal candles or matching hurricanes for warmth and variation in height.
  • Decorative objects: Use ceramics or small figurines to fill open areas beside the central arrangement. This can be done in pairs or odd numbered groupings.
  • Table runners: Choose a simple runner that complements the palette without competing with the other pieces.
  • Place settings: Layer dinner plates, salad plates, flatware, napkins and optional place cards or napkin rings to suit the occasion.

With the main pieces arranged, the finishing touches come down to balancing of color, texture and seasonal details. A few pumpkins or jewel toned accents bring fall into the design while leaving room for everyday dishes and decorative objects you use throughout the year to serve as the fouantion. The table feels refreshed for the season without needing an entirely new setup.

Building a Place Setting

For this orange and blue table, I focused on pieces we already use and enjoy. Our woven scalloped placemats from Crate & Barrel became the starting point, with our everyday white beaded dinner plates layered on top. The woven texture and detailed edges give each setting a little character without relying on seasonal dishes. Light blue salad plates purchased over the summer introduce the cooler shade and give those pieces another season of use.

The blue plates are melamine, which works alongside our other tableware as long as the pieces suit how we use them. I prefer not to store large amounts of seasonal dishes, so combining different materials gives me more flexibility with what we already own. Simple Libbey water glasses keep the setting practical, while blue and white striped napkins from Target add pattern. Each striped napkin repeats the pops of color in the dishes without making every part of the setting match.

A Simple Pumpkin Centerpiece

A pumpkin arrangement gives the table a familiar fall detail that works with the softer blue accents. This fall centerpiece comes together quickly with affordable, easy-to-find supplies and is simple enough to leave in place between gatherings. Small pumpkins, greenery and faux florals create a seasonal combination that can stay on the table through Thanksgiving.

My simple fall pumpkin centerpiece post includes the supplies and details for making the arrangement. Using faux pumpkins makes it easy to reuse the centerpiece year after year, with different stems or colors when you want a change. It’s a practical way to coordinate a seasonal centerpiece with your existing decor while keeping a recognizable touch of fall.

Accenting with Decorative Details

A few decorative accents bring more color and texture into the arrangement. I used thrifted jewel toned velvet pumpkins to introduce richer shades alongside the pale blue plates and classic orange pumpkins. Their soft texture gives the table another layer without requiring additional patterned pieces. A pair of green vintage artichoke ceramic sculptures flank the centerpiece, adding classic appeal and repeating a color already used in my home.

Seashell hurricanes from HomeGoods bring a subtle coastal touch to the table. They are an unexpected addition for fall, but they fit the overall style of the arrangement and make it feel more personal. Combining these simple elements is also an opportunity to experiment with different patterns and textures. Larger patterns tend to draw more attention, while smaller, subtler designs often work like neutrals beside more colorful pieces. Grounding the full table setting is a simple light green scalloped runner that I use across multiple seasons.

Styling for Everyday Meals and Fall Gatherings

Before planning the details, it helps to consider how you’ll use your dining table during the season. You may be setting a casual table for everyday meals, hosting a fall dinner party or preparing for Thanksgiving dinner. The same approach works for each, with the amount of decoration and detail in the place settings adjusted to suit the occasion.

The colors you establish on the table also provide a starting point for decorating other areas of your home. A side table or mantel can pick up a shade, texture or seasonal accent without repeating the entire arrangement. This gives your fall decorating a sense of continuity while allowing each space to look a little different.

Fall Color That Fits Your Home

A fall table setting can feel seasonal while complementing the colors and style already in your home. Pairing one of the traditional fall colors with a less expected shade gives the design a fresh direction, especially when you carry that palette into your fall decor elsewhere in the house. Everyday dishes provide the foundation, with a few seasonal accents adapting the arrangement for casual meals or a Thanksgiving table. There is no need for an entirely new collection of tableware or decorations. A considered palette and a few well chosen additions give the table a distinct fall look without setting aside your everyday style.
