Step into our coastal dining room. With clean lines, bold colors and coastal touches, this is one of our favorite places to gather and enjoy one another’s company.

Dining Room Location
Admittedly, our dining room was a bit of an afterthought for me after working on personalizing our builder grade kitchen. We have one dining room in this house along with our breakfast counter that can seat four at it. The dining room is directly adjacent to the kitchen, so I knew I wanted a similar look and feel. We don’t do any formal entertaining, so the space is generally for weeknight dinners, playing games or for kids working on craft projects that require space. I do love to set a fun table for Christmas and Easter though! I wanted the space to be coastal, modern and clean feeling.

I started by carrying the gold touches in the kitchen into our dining area. The gold mirror below helps with this, but I ended up swapping it out with wall art because I didn’t like the reflection over the table. I do will have the gold wall shelves with plants on them. I kept my furniture selections high contrast – the dark wood table with light chairs. The white fireplace with the dark metal of the chandeliers. Somehow it all just works for me! It is crisp and clean with coastal touches.

Furniture for The Dining Room
All of the furniture is new in this space with the exception of the upholstered wing back chairs at the head of the table. We had them in our last house and I wasn’t ready to part with them yet, so they landed here. The dark wood walnut table is from Overstock and the cane back chairs are from American Signature Furniture. I knew I would be adding a fireplace in our house. Moving from up North, it just felt wrong not having a mantle to hang Christmas stockings from. It’s also nice to have to warm up the kitchen on the handful of “cold” days we get a year.

Choosing Lighting and Wall Art
I picked two of the same chandelier to hang over the dining room table in this space. The chandelier is from Home Depot. It was originally a more rustic, weathered metallic finish, but I spray painted the metal black. Each crystal had to be hung individually, which took some time. Now, if I only was better at cleaning them!
As I mentioned previously, I started with a round, gold framed mirror above the fireplace and ultimately replaced it with wall art. I fell in love with this overhead shot of two kayakers in the ocean I stumbled upon at Home Goods. On our honeymoon, my husband and I tried kayaking and it went poorly, but we still laugh about it to this day. I love that the wall art triggers this memory for me.

The picture above is how our table is set for everyday use. I usually just have a basic runner, the same woven placemats and a small centerpiece. In this case, the table runner is from a thrift shop, my everyday woven placemats are from Crate and Barrel and the tulipiere centerpiece is from Wayfair. Those are also faux tulips from Amazon!
Decor and Accessories
There is a small section of wall space between our kitchen and dining room that I decided to add a piece of furniture too. I found the gold woven side table at Goodwill! It was originally silver and black, but a few coats of gold spray paint and it was perfect for this space. I try to keep a few plants alive on it. For containers, I just use whatever I find at Goodwill or other cute containers from places I normally shop at.

Beyond the plant stand, I have two other plants sitting on two small gold wall shelves. The shelves and the white pedestal containers are from a thrift shop too!
