Modern and Vintage Mirror Accent Wall

Elegant living room interior with modern decor and stylish furniture, SLO Interiors.

A mirror accent wall is a stylish way to fill a large wall with style. In my living room, it created a distinctive focal point with a mix of modern and vintage decorative mirrors. This mirror accent wall became the perfect focal point in my living room through a mix of modern and vintage mirrors. It is a simple way to fill the space with style, and the overall look is easy to pull together. Decorative mirrors are one of the more affordable decor pieces to source, whether you are shopping retailers or vintage shops. This mirror wall is easy to replicate at home in a way that matches your personal style.

Starting With a Blank Wall

This room started as a blank slate, with a two-story wall in the sitting room just off the front entry. I knew the empty wall needed a large decorative accent, but with so many different types of wall decor to choose from, narrowing it down took some thought. Mirrors are a great options for large walls because you are not tied to one style or color. They are an design piece that evolve with you over time. I was inspired by the height of the ceilings and the way light moves through a large room. This is a small room, so the mirrors helped create the illusion of space.

Selecting and Hanging Mirrors

When building a mirror accent wall, it helps to consider the full mix each mirror brings to the wall, including color, style, size, and shape. I wanted this room to have a broad mix of styles that could speak to many tastes. I selected gold, ornate frames to mix with the sleek lines of more modern, silver geometrical mirrors. For balance, I tried to keep the size, scale, and shape somewhat consistent across the wall. This takes some experimenting to work out. I recommend laying out all the mirrors on the floor and moving them into different positions until they are well balanced. The gold frames were all vintage pieces I found, while the more modern mirrors came from places like HomeGoods. Once the layout felt right, I made sure the hanging hardware was sturdy and had my handyman husband handle the installation.

Bringing Color Into the Space

I had already purchased all of the existing neutral furniture for the room. Similar to the accent mirror wall, the furniture could last for many years through different style evolutions. I wanted to bring in some more high contrast decor through the use of jewel tone colors. I love the crispness of green, blue and pops of pink so decided to use these as my colors as I experimented with accent pieces.

Layering in Decorative Details

I am always experimenting with different styles, colors, and patterns in this space. For the pillows, I tried neutrals, jewel tones, and florals. I did the same with the vases, using my favorite black and white chevron urn along with other glass and ceramic pieces I already had. On the table, I layered florals and greenery, like faux boxwood balls. The florals brought in neutrals or pops of pink and hand-cut profile art of my son added a personal touch. Last but not least, styling the mirrors with a preserved boxwood wreath is a classic choice that adds visual interest and is something I know I will continue through the seasons.

The Final Mirror Accent Wall

If you have a unique decor taste, this is the perfect mirror accent wall project as it leaves room for your style to change over time. Contemporary wall decor and traditional paintings can commit you to specific design style for your space. This mirror accent wall project is versatile, impactful, and brings a strong sense of style to any space. It is a creative way to meet the challenge of filling a large wall in a simple and fashionable way. This is the type of decor that is enjoyable to shop for, satisfying to pull together, and easy to admire in your space.
