Step into our modern, coastal green guest bedroom. Light green paint, dark green accessories and tropical accents showcase this serene green bedroom decor. My favorite color combination is pink and green, so I leaned into a range of green tones and added a few soft pink accents in this space. The room is spacious, with a California king bed, a bench at the foot of it and enough room for a leaning mirror and accent tree in the corner.
I often call this room “the hotel” because on the occasional night with a sick kid or spouse, I sleep in here and it truly feels like a hotel. I wanted a serene retreat with a modern look and a coastal feel. This green bedroom design brought that idea to life.
Green Design Inspiration
The inspiration for this space began with a few favorite images that featured rich green shades and a calm, coastal feel. The image below became the starting point for how this room could look in our own home. Green is a versatile color, so it works well with both soft pastels and deeper tones. The mix of coastal bedroom furniture and thoughtful styling offered bedroom design ideas that helped guide the overall direction while still leaving room to adjust the palette and layout to fit this space. I evolved the palette from this early reference but continued to highlight the color green, which I get into below.

There are so many beautiful greens to bring into your decor. Olive green, deep green, natural green, sage green and emerald green all work well in different settings, and whichever you choose, you can integrate them into a green bedroom decor idea you’ll love.
Design Plan & Color Palette
The design board I created for this space ended up matching the final room very closely. When planning the layout and decor, I spent time balancing the green tones with a small amount of pink. I chose tropical accents that felt thoughtful rather than thematic. I also focused on blending light and dark colors with warm wood to create contrast and bring in natural materials. This approach helped the room feel layered with different shades of green. It also allows the accent color to stand out in a subtle, cohesive way.

The green paint color I chose for this room is Come Sail Away by Benjamin Moore. It is the same color used in our entryway and primary bathroom and continues to work well in each space.
Bedroom Room Decor Furniture Choices
For this room, I planned to reuse only one piece of furniture, which was the dark wood bed frame. We’ve had it for years and the clean lines make it work in every bedroom we have used it in. The darker finish creates a soft contrast against the lighter walls, creating a natural focal point for the space. It is not a traditional coastal choice, but the right mix of light wood tones, tropical linens and wall art helps it blend into the overall look.
I purchased three new furniture items for the guest room. The two round bedside tables introduce light wood tones that soften the bed frame. The dark green storage bench adds another practical piece with color that ties into the room. The green storage bench is similar in shade to my favorite ottomans in my sitting room.

Simple Lighting
Can you please write a conclusion sentence for this section: I kept the light fixtures in this room simple. There is an overhead light that brightens the full space. A lamp on each side table provides softer reading light. The overhead light brings in a classic coastal woven texture. The bedside lamps once sat on a buffet cabinet in our old house, I like how the thin crystal bases feel timeless in this room. The lampshades have a touch of sparkle to them. These choices keep the lighting understated and help the room feel calm and comfortable.
Bed Linens & Curtains
I always prefer mix-and-match bedding because bed-in-a-bag sets feel too matchy-matchy to me. The soft textures that come from layering different colors and patterned linens are what I prefer, especially when each piece is styled with intention. I also love white bedding, so I always use it as the base layer. I buy the same sheets for every bed in our home to make laundering and changing beds easier. They are an investment, but worth it, and they have held up beautifully for five years with no signs of wear. The white quilt on this bed is one of my favorites. It is 100% cotton, a bit stiff when new, but softens nicely with each wash.
For the throw pillows, I wanted a few statement pieces to bring in pops of color. I added coral pink as an accent to brighten the shades of green palette. The Euro shams are a great tropical touch and align to my love of pink and green. Pink and green are complementary colors on the color wheel, which makes them easy to pair in many rooms. The coral tassel has great texture to it and color matches the shams perfectly. The light blue standard sham and duvet are from Pottery Barn, but I thrifted the set not knowing where I’d ultimately use it. The curtains in this room are a simple white cotton and linen blend that I use in a few spaces throughout our home. The clean look creates a soft backdrop that lets the bedding and color palette stay at the center of the room.

Green Bedroom Decor
Keeping too many small home decor pieces around with young kids can turn into clutter, so I kept the styling in this space simple. There are two faux green plants on the bedside tables and a faux fiddle leaf fig tree at the foot of the bed. The topiaries are from HomeGoods, which is one of my favorite sources for smaller accents. The faux-fiddle leaf fig sits in a gold bucket with a lion’s head detail that I found at Goodwill. The faux greenery gives the room the fresh look of green plants without adding the maintenance of needing to be watered.

Tropical Wall Art Guest Room Decor
The Moroccan full length mirror is from At Home. I like it leaning against the wall because the fills the space nicely while still being a functional piece for guests to use. The greens, tropical accents and Moroccan details bring in a hint of boho vibes that still fits with the coastal aesthetic of this room.
There is a second mirror in this room that hangs above the bed. The small round mirror has a rattan frame that ties in with the coastal feel of the room. It adds a natural element to the space. On one side of the bed, I hung a set of six tropical bird prints. They are one of my favorite details in the room because of their vibrant colors and the balanced look they bring to the layout.

At the foot of the bed, next to the closet, I have two sculptured wall panels. I thrifted this set. They were originally a dark brown faux wood, and I spray painted them white to brighten the feel of them. The lighter color helps them blend into the room while adding a layer of texture that ties in with the rest of the decor.

Shades of green bedroom design
This bedroom retreat is grounded in green decor that gives the space a calm and welcoming feel. The color scheme brings a natural feel and works well with the modern coastal style throughout our home. This stylish space reflects the mix of colorful and classic pieces that I love. It shows how a few thoughtful choices can shape the overall design. Whether you are decorating your own space with dark and light green, like I did here, or working with the many shades of green available, the right palette can guide your room in a clear direction. Simple updates can help the space feel more intentional, and small changes often make the biggest difference. I hope this inspires you to try green bedroom decor in your guest room and create a space that feels comfortable and inviting.
